In April 2020, Auwii Instrument’s Green-Lab portfolio (solvent safety caps, dip-tube waste collectors and funnel-type units) rang up one sales win after another. Among them, a researcher at a Sichuan laboratory approached us for help with the waste-water stream created by his solid-phase-extraction equipment. After learning about our Green-Lab products, he contacted us immediately.

Solid-phase-extraction (SPE) instruments work on SPE technology. SPE is a sample-preparation technique developed in recent years that merges liquid–solid extraction with column liquid-chromatography principles. It is used to separate, purify and concentrate target analytes. SPE is essentially a physical extraction process involving both a liquid phase and a solid phase.
How it works
The solid sorbent has a stronger affinity for the analyte than the liquid sample matrix. As the liquid passes through the SPE cartridge, the analyte is retained on the solid surface while other components flow through. The analyte is then eluted with an appropriate solvent, achieving separation from the matrix and enrichment.
Because of this mechanism, SPE generates waste liquids—mainly aqueous effluent, organic solvents and chlorinated solvents. Previously the researcher had collected these wastes in ordinary reagent bottles. Chlorine is highly reactive and toxic; its vapours are strongly irritating and long-term exposure is harmful. After suffering for months, he turned to us for a solution.
Dip-tube Waste-collection Unit
He chose our dip-tube collector. Multiple waste lines from the SPE manifold could be connected thanks to the unit’s versatile ports (soft and rigid tubing compatible). An exhaust filter efficiently adsorbs harmful vapours, a time-tag reminds users when to replace the filter, and a PVDF float switch provides accurate level detection to prevent overflow—exactly the remedy he needed.
